Easy Midnight Margaritas

If we're going to have margaritas in October, obviously we're going to make them a little magical. 🔮

I made these Midnight Margaritas for Halloween, and they might be one of my favorite party drinks I've made.

They're spooky without being complicated, they're SO pretty, and the butterfly pea flower tea gives them this gorgeous deep color that makes a basic margarita feel like something you'd order at a Halloween party.

And the best part?

We're starting with Chick-fil-A lemonade. 😂

Because around here, I am always going to choose the shortcut that makes something easier without making it less fun.

If you're looking for an easy Halloween cocktail, spooky margarita or batch Halloween drink for a party, save this one.

What Makes Midnight Margaritas Purple?

The magic ingredient is butterfly pea flower tea.

Butterfly pea flower tea naturally has a beautiful blue color, but when you add something acidic—like the lemonade and lime juice in these margaritas—the color changes.

Which is basically begging to be turned into a Halloween drink.

It gives the margaritas that deep blue-purple color without needing to add a bunch of food coloring, and it makes the whole thing feel a little witchy.

Add a black salt rim and you've got a Halloween cocktail that looks like you worked much harder on it than you actually did.

My favorite kind. 😂

Midnight Margaritas Recipe

Makes: One large batch, perfect for a Halloween party

Ingredients

  • 1 gallon Chick-fil-A Diet Lemonade

  • 1 bottle coconut tequila

  • 1 bottle lime juice

  • 4 butterfly pea flower tea bags

  • 12 ounces hot water

  • Black salt, for the rims

  • Ice

How to Make Midnight Margaritas

1. Start with the lemonade.

Pour 4 cups of lemonade out of the gallon container first.

Don't skip this part or you're not going to have enough room for everything else we're adding.

And yes, you can save that lemonade for later. We're not wasting Chick-fil-A lemonade around here. 😂

2. Make the butterfly pea flower tea.

Steep 4 butterfly pea flower tea bags in 12 ounces of hot water.

Let the tea get nice and dark. This is what's going to give your Midnight Margaritas that gorgeous spooky color.

Let it cool before adding it to the lemonade.

3. Add the tequila.

Pour the bottle of coconut tequila into the gallon of lemonade.

The coconut flavor gives this such a fun twist without making the recipe complicated.

4. Add the lime juice.

Pour in the bottle of lime juice.

Now you've got all the margarita flavors happening—and the acidity from the citrus is also going to work its magic with the butterfly pea flower tea.

5. Add the tea.

Pour your cooled butterfly pea flower tea into the mixture and watch that color change.

This is the fun part.

Give everything a really good shake or stir until it's completely combined.

6. Make the black salt rims.

Pour black salt onto a small plate.

Wet the rim of each glass with lime or a little lime juice, then dip it into the black salt.

This takes approximately 30 seconds and makes the whole drink look SO much better.

7. Pour and serve.

Fill your black-salt-rimmed glasses with ice and pour in your Midnight Margaritas.

That's it.

Spooky. Pretty. Easy.

Can I Make Midnight Margaritas Ahead of Time?

YES.

Actually, this is one of the reasons I love this recipe for a Halloween party.

Make the entire batch ahead of time and keep it refrigerated. Then when people arrive, all you have to do is rim the glasses, add ice and pour.

Nobody needs to be standing behind the kitchen counter making individual margaritas all night.

Especially me. 😂

Just give the mixture a good stir or shake before serving.

The Black Salt Rim Is Worth It

Technically, could you skip the black salt?

Of course.

Would I?

No. 😂

The black rim against that deep purple-blue margarita is what makes these feel like Halloween margaritas instead of just a pitcher of cocktails.

It's one of those tiny details that takes almost no extra effort but makes the whole thing feel special.

And you know I'm always going to make a big deal out of the little things.

Perfect for a Halloween Party

If you're hosting a Halloween party, girls' night, neighborhood get-together or just want a fun Halloween cocktail for October, this is such an easy one.

Make one big batch.

Put out the black salt.

Use cute glasses.

Throw on Practical Magic.

Done. 🔮😂

Because Halloween drinks do not need 17 ingredients and smoke coming out of a cauldron to be fun.

Although I am certainly not opposed to the cauldron.
